2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp granulated sugar
2 1/2 baking powder
6 tbsp unsalted butter, cubed and cold
3/4 cup whole milk
vegetable oil for frying
granulated sugar for dusting
Combine flour, sugar, salt and baking powder together in a bowl. Take the cubed butter and cut into the flour mixture with a fork until the mixture resembles course meal. Keep cold until ready to mix together with milk. Add and stir until combined.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and dust dough with flour. Pat out dough until about 1/2 inch thick and use a 2 inch round cutter to cut out circles.
When dough is ready, heat up a heavy bottomed pot and add 2 inches of oil. Heat until oil is 350F when checked with a thermometer.
Fry doughnuts a couple at a time without crowding until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side.
