Stir fried Asparagus and Walnuts


1 pound of thin asparagus
2 tbsp vegetable oil
salt  to taste
1/2 tsp ground sichuan peppercorns
1/4 tsp five spice powder
1 tsp grated garlic
2 tsp grated ginger
1 tbsp dark brown sugar
1 jalapeno, sliced
2 tsp soy sauce
1/2 cup walnut pieces
1 tsp toasted sesame oil
3 green onions, sliced
chopped cilantro, for garnish


Snap off bottoms of asparagus and cut into small pieces. Slice jalapeno into thin slices.

Heat wok on high heat and add vegetable oil. When hot, add asparagus and season with salt. Stir fry for about 1 minute, then add sichuan pepper, five spice, garlic, ginger sugar, jalapeno, soy sauce and walnuts. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, tossing often to coat and cook the asparagus. Cook until bright green.

Transfer to a plate and drizzle sesame oil on top. Garnish with green onions and cilantro.
