1 28 oz canned tomatoes (whole)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
Red pepper flakes
Salt (to taste)
1 teaspoon sugar
Crush tomatoes with hands.
Heat olive oil in pot, add onions, oregano, basil and pepper and cook until onions are translucent. Add garlic and cook for about 1 minute or until fragrant.
Add tomatoes, 1 teaspoon sugar and salt. Cook until starting to simmer, turn to medium low. Cook for about 30-40 minutes.
1 can of prepared pizza dough (large)
8 oz ricotta cheese
6 oz of shredded cheese
1 egg white
Slice sausage and chop green pepper, cook in skillet until done. You can use pretty much any filling you want. You can also fill it with sauce if preferred.
Preheat oven to 400
Mix ricotta and shredded cheese, seasoning and egg white. Unroll pizza dough and spread mixture on half of the pizza dough. Place toppings on top of mixture. Fold over and pinch ends of the calzone so it makes a seal.
Brush the calzone with olive oil and sprinkle with italian seasonings. Place in oven and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool and serve with pizza sauce.
